5 Best UK And USA Based TV Series To Watch On September 2023 On Netflix, Prime And HBO

1 years ago By Movies Desk

September is traditionally the biggest month of the year for television, with the fall TV season kicking off, broadcast networks plump with new series, and the Emmys ready to hand out trophies to the best in the industry. But this is no traditional September, and with the writers and actors strikes for a living wage flattening out the schedule this year, the month is looking a little lighter than usual. Most of the broadcast networks are in reruns or loaded with reality television, so you’ll want to turn your attention toward the streamers and cable, which have some interesting shows like, Netflix’s Sex Education & wrestlers and Prime Video’s Gen V.

The best shows and movies to watch In September

1. Wrestlers (13 September)

Netflix is set to release a new wrestling docuseries in September 2023 called ‘Wrestlers.’ This upcoming series focuses on Ohio Valley Wrestling, a struggling wrestling promotion, and its efforts to be rescued by the prominent figure in the wrestling industry, Al Snow. The series is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles and will be a Netflix Original. It’s directed by Greg Whiteley, known for his work on ‘Cheers’ and “Last Chance U,” and the executive producer for BBC Studios is Ryan O’Dowd.

‘Wrestlers’ is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. The series consists of seven episodes, each with an estimated runtime of approximately 55 minutes.

2. Sex Education (21 September)

Netflix announced the release date for the fourth season of the British comedy-drama “Sex Education” on August 29, 2023. The series will premiere on September 21, 2023, and will be available for viewing on Netflix at midnight Pacific Time.

The fourth season features significant casting changes, with several original cast members, including Emma Mackey (Maeve), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Rakhee Thakrar, Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds, and Patricia Allison, departing from the show. Notably, new cast members like Jodie Turner-Smith, Dan Levy, Thaddea Graham, Marie Ruther, and others have joined the series.

Following the events of Season 3, where the students were informed they must seek education elsewhere, characters like Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) have enrolled in Cavendish Sixth Form College, a different setting from Moordale. Maeve (Emma Mackey) has embraced an opportunity in the United States.

The fourth season will center on the students’ experiences in their new school and will mark the final installment of the show, which originally premiered on January 11, 2019. Laurie Nunn, the creator of the series, shared a letter with fans on July 5, announcing the conclusion of the “Sex Education” saga, expressing pride in the cast and crew’s dedication to bringing the final series to the audience.

3. Gen V (29 September)

Amazon Prime Video has announced the premiere date for the spinoff series “Gen V,” a creation by Eric Kripke. This new show, set in a superhero college, will debut with its first three episodes on September 29, followed by weekly episodes until the Season 1 finale on November 3.

The show’s premiere date coincides with the completion of filming for “The Boys” Season 4, although its release date remains unannounced. This decision is also influenced by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA dual strike, which disrupted Amazon’s plans to showcase “Gen V” and other titles with cast and creators at San Diego Comic-Con.

The cast of “Gen V” includes Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi. Guest appearances feature Clancy Brown and Jason Ritter, along with “The Boys” cast members Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, and P.J. Byrne reprising their roles from the main series.

The show is helmed by showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, with executive producers such as Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, and others. Co-executive producers include Brant Englestein, Sarah Carbiener, Lisa Kussner, Gabriel Garcia, and more.”

Gen V” is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios, in collaboration with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film. It stands as the third installment in Amazon’s “The Boys” franchise, alongside the main series and the animated anthology “The Boys Presents: Diabolical.”

4. The Wheel Of Time (1 September)

Prime Video unveiled the first three episodes of the second season of “The Wheel of Time” globally on September 1, introducing viewers to the menacing monsters known as “The Trollocs.” These fearsome creatures, originally featured in Robert Jordan’s bestselling novels, are the foot soldiers of the Dark One’s army. They are insatiable and bloodthirsty killing machines, genetically engineered to be super-soldiers, and possess the ability to shape-shift into aggressive animals like boars, bears, and hawks.

In a recent sneak peek from Season Two, adapted from Robert Jordan’s “The Great Hunt,” viewers witnessed three vicious Trollocs being hypnotically controlled by one of the series’ key villains, portrayed by actor Fares Fares.

Prime Video has also released a behind-the-scenes featurette titled “Terror of the Trollocs,” featuring interviews with series star and co-executive producer Rosamund Pike, executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins, executive producer Mike Weber, executive producer and writer Justine Juel Gillmer, and makeup effects designer Nick Dudman. This featurette unveils the meticulous artistry and technology behind bringing these brutal beasts to life, combining practical prosthetics with cutting-edge visual effects to create what can only be described as “nightmare fuel.”

Furthermore, the featurette offers a rare look behind the scenes of the adrenaline-pumping stunts that make up the intense battle sequences involving the Trollocs. It gives viewers a preview of the impending clash between light and shadow in the upcoming season, promising an exciting continuation of the series’ epic fantasy narrative.

5. The Continental (22 September)

The Continental, a highly-anticipated spin-off series from the John Wick universe, is nearly ready for check-in! This show delves into the origin story of the infamous hotel for assassins. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of the hotel, and we’re introduced to Colin Woodell’s young Winston Scott in 1970s New York. Right from the start, the trailer bursts with violence. As Winston becomes entangled in the criminal underworld, he’s compelled to seize control of the hotel.
