Bad Bunny: It’s A Delicate Topic, But Obviously It’s A Movie That No Longer Exists After Cancelling Of ‘El Muerto’

1 years ago By Neil Ross

In the world of entertainment, multi-talented artists often venture into various domains, and Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican musician hailed as the King of Latin Trap, is no exception. While he initially gained fame through his music, he recently made a cameo appearance in Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train, where his acting abilities garnered praise. But Bad Bunny’s foray into the entertainment industry doesn’t stop there; he has also ventured into the realm of professional wrestling, participating in matches at Backlash in 2023 and WrestleMania 37 in 2021 under the banner of the American organization WWE.

For fans eagerly anticipating Bad Bunny’s appearance in the highly anticipated Spider-Man spinoff film, El Muerto, there’s disheartening news. The movie, which was generating significant buzz, has recently encountered a setback. However, fans have consistently admired Bad Bunny for his versatility and willingness to explore new horizons while remaining dedicated to his music. Let’s take a closer look at this surprising twist of fate.

Bad Bunny No Longer Tied to Sony Pictures’ El Muerto

In a recent cover story interview with Vanity Fair, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was confronted with questions about his eagerly awaited Spider-Man spinoff movie, El Muerto. Unfortunately, the film was removed from Sony Pictures’ release calendar in June 2023. When asked about it, Bad Bunny responded with, “I don’t know what to say,” followed by an uncomfortable pause. His publicist, Sujeylee Solá, advised him not to answer the question due to its sensitivity but confirmed, “Obviously, it’s out.” This revelation unequivocally establishes that the artist is no longer associated with this highly anticipated project.

The Unforeseen Removal of El Muerto from Sony’s Slate

Sony Pictures recently shuffled their release schedule, affecting several upcoming movies, such as Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Madame Web, featuring Dakota Johnson. However, fans were quick to notice that the Spider-Man spinoff, El Muerto, was conspicuously absent from the calendar. This absence fueled speculation about whether the project had been abandoned or merely delayed.

The Demise of ‘El Muerto’: Bad Bunny Confirms Sony’s Film Cancellation

Sony Pictures initially unveiled ambitious plans, expanding their universe of Spider-Man characters with movies like Morbius, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Venom 3, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. However, they also announced a peculiar film centered around a relatively obscure Spider-Man villain, The Dead, and Bad Bunny was set to star in it. Unfortunately, this project faced significant developmental challenges, and rumors began to circulate about the actor’s disinterest in the film. Today, Bad Bunny himself has confirmed the grim reality—it will not come to fruition.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the singer cautiously addressed the issue, stating, “I don’t know what to say about it. This is a sensitive topic, but obviously, it’s a film that no longer exists.” The decision to abandon the project likely arose from Sony’s recognition that it lacked the necessary appeal for this genre, as it did not resonate strongly with audiences—similar to the underwhelming performance of Morbius at the box office.

The Marvel Character ‘El Muerto’

El Muerto, a character created by Peter David and Roger Cruz, made his debut in 2006 within the pages of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #6. While relatively obscure, The Dead managed to appear sporadically as a secondary character in Spider-Man comics, even engaging in a charity wrestling match against Spider-Man himself. During this encounter, he nearly revealed Spider-Man’s true identity before succumbing to a paralyzing poison. Later, the two joined forces to confront their mutual nemesis, Dorado. Sony eventually decided to withdraw from the project, recognizing that it was not an ideal fit for the genre’s audience, particularly in light of the challenges faced by Morbius.

Bad Bunny’s Ongoing Career

Bad Bunny’s departure from Sony’s El Muerto movie does not mark the end of his multifaceted career. Notably, the singer has expanded his repertoire into the realm of acting, with roles in films like F9, Bullet Train, and the upcoming biopic Cassandro alongside Gael García Bernal. Expressing his enthusiasm for further cinematic endeavors, Bad Bunny stated, “As a movie consumer myself, I’m not one to watch a lot of action movies. I’d even say it’s my least favorite genre. I would really like to play other kinds of things, like a little bit more drama, romance too, or comedy.”

In conclusion, while the cancellation of ‘El Muerto’ is undoubtedly a disappointment for both Bad Bunny’s fans and enthusiasts of the Marvel universe, it’s essential to remember that Bad Bunny’s career is far from over. With his versatility and dedication, he continues to explore new avenues, leaving audiences eager to witness his future artistic endeavors.
